This fall is already giving us plenty of good reasons to stay home, with a slate of solid original movies in September ready to hit the stream. Here are the previews for 8 movies that we’re dying to watch on Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video.
Sitting in Bars with Cake
Inspired by a true story about 2 twentysomething best friends who couldn’t be more different. Outgoing Corrine and shy, talented baker Jane come with a plan to deliver cakes to L.A. bars. And all is fun and laugh until Corinne gets some bad news — very bad news— from the doctor.
If the preview doesn’t make your eyes water… no cake for you!

Love at First Sight
If, like me, you recently finished watching season 2 of The White Lotus, you’re probably wondering where you can see more of Haley Lu Richardson. Well, here’s your answer.
Based on the novel of (almost) the same name by Jennifer E. Smith, Richardson meets the man of her dreams on a 7-hour flight to London. And then she drops her iPhone. (Haley Lu Richardson doesn’t have very good luck with guys she meets on vacation.)

- Streamer: Netflix
- Genre: Romantic Comedy
A Million Miles Away
The second of our movies in September based on a true story, Michael Peña stars as Jose Hernandez, the man who went from migrant farm worker to NASA astronaut. It looks like another tearjerker, but who doesn’t love a good beat-the-odds-and-overcome-obstacles movie? Especially when it’s got astronauts in it.

- Streamer: Prime Video
- Genre: Drama, Biopic
El Conde
El Conde (The Count) is the only black and white, Spanish-language vampire satire among the new movies in September. Former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet is 250-year-old vampire who, after being accused of theft, wants to die. He was fine living — or rather, unliving — with the reputation of a genocidal monster. But he simply cannot go on with people thinking he’s a thief.
It actually premiered at the Venice Film Festival last month and reviews look positive. (It’s Golden Lion nomination is still pending at the time of writing.)

No One Will Save You
There are over 1.65 million home invasions each year. This one is different. Or so the title cards inform us. And after a minute, we see why. A high school homebody faces off against an alien in something that looks part Stranger Things and part Fire in the Sky, with a little bit of Nope thrown in.

Spy Kids: Armageddon
Gear up for a new generation of spies. After a 12-year hiatus, Spy Kids creator and director Robert Rodriguez is rebooting his popular film franchise with a new family holding the gadgets. This time the villain is a wealthy game developer hellbent on, you guessed it, world domination. No clues yet as to whether we’ll see anyone from the Cortez family make an appearance.

The Black Book
There are some grudges that should be taken to the grave.
Nigerian filmmaker (and producer, writer, entrepreneur, etc.) Editi Effiong makes his feature film directorial debut with this high-octane African thriller. Award-winning actor RMD stars as a grieving — and very angry — father out for justice (or vengeance) after his son framed for kidnapping then murdered.

Cassandro
Movies in September have a thing for reality. It’s yet another tale from the real world — or as real as the world of Mexican professional wrestling can get. The always incredible Gael García Bernal stars as legendary luchador Cassandro, who took the lucha libre world by storm when he became an exótico. Directed by Oscar winner Roger Ross Williams, it looks like a wild ride full of masked men, muscles, and machismo.
