Ever since the death of the Netflix free trial on a cold October day in 2020, other streaming services have been sending their own free trials to that peaceful farm upstate.

Disney+, Peacock, and Max—they all put an end to their free trials. However, there are still some streaming services who follow a try-before-you-buy philosophy. And MGM+ is one of them

Does MGM+ offer a free trial in 2024?

Yes.

As noted above, MGM+ still has a free trial in 2024.

How long is the MGM+ free trial?

7 days.

(But see below for how get a longer free trial.)

Even though it’s a far cry from the industry-leading 30-day free trials of Hulu and Prime Video, it’s the same as the free trials for Apple TV+ and Paramount+.

The table below shows how MGM+ stacks up against the competition’s approach to free trials.

Streaming Service Free Trial Repeatable
AMC+ 7 Days No
Apple TV+ 7 Days No
Disney+ None -
Hulu 30 Days Yes
Max (HBO) None* -
MGM+ 7 Days Yes
Netflix None* -
Paramount+ 7 Days No
Peacock None* -
Prime Video 30 Days Every 12 Months
Starz None* -
* The service does not offer a free trial directly, but there might be promotions and other ways to get a free trial.

What does the MGM+ free trial include?

Like Apple TV+ and Starz, MGM+ keep things simple by offering a single plan. That makes getting the free trial a decision-free process.

No commercials. No paywalled features. No worries. Everyone gets all the same shows and movies.

Does the MGM+ free trial require a credit card?

Yes.

If you are getting the standard MGM+ free trial directly through the streaming service, you need to provide your payment information.

While plenty of streaming services accept payments methods ranging from Apple Pay to PayPal to gift cards, MGM+ only takes plastic.

The 4 credit cards that MGM+ accepts are:

  • American Express
  • Discover
  • MasterCard
  • Visa

đź’ˇ BUT you can still get an MGM+ free trial without a credit card if you sign up through another service.

Other ways to pay for MGM+

If you don’t want to (or can’t) pay for MGM+ with a credit card, you’ll need to subscribe through a third party. MGM+ has a wide range of partners, which opens up PayPal, Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, and numerous other payment options.

Third-party MGM+ subscription partners include:

  • Apple TV
  • Amazon Prime Video
  • DirecTV Stream
  • Roku
  • Sling TV
  • Spectrum TV
  • YouTube TV

Can you get the MGM+ free trial more than once?

Many streaming services got rid of their free trials altogether, and most who still have one offer it as a one-shot deal.

But there are a few—as in just three—streaming services that let you try before you buy more than once. And MGM+ is one of them. (The others are Prime Video and Hulu.)

The MGM+ free trial is open to new and eligible returning subscribers. As is par for the course in the industry, what constitutes an “eligible returning customer” is not clearly defined anywhere by MGM+.

However, based on our own testing and discussions with MGM+ Customer Support, we can assume eligibility is based on having at least 12 months since your last trial or active subscription.

How to cancel your MGM+ free trial

Cancelling your MGM+ free trial, of course, depends on how and where you signed up for it.

If you signed up for it directly, simply log in to the MGM+ website and go to your profile page. Under Subscription click Cancel.

If you’ve signed up through a third party like Apple, Amazon, or Roku, you’ll need to cancel your subscription through that platform.

For more details on managing and canceling your MGM+ subscription, check out this FAQ on MGMplus.com.

Can you cancel your MGM+ free trial before it ends?

Yes.

If you’re wondering what happens when you cancel your MGM+ free trial, fear not. You can safely continue watching MGM+ until your 7-day free trial runs its course.

Other ways to get MGM+ for free

There are other ways to try MGM+ for free besides the standard free trial, from a month to even 6 months free.

Of course, getting something for free nowadays often includes paying for something else.

Get 6 months of MGM+ free with a Fire TV

When you buy a new Fire TV device from Amazon, you can get MGM+ free for 6 months.

You must activate your device between September 20, 2023 and September 20, 2024 in order to be eligible for the offer. Check out Amazon’s Help page for more complete details about the offer.

Get a month of MGM+ free with Sling TV

Getting a month free of MGM+ will cost you a Sling Blue or Sling Orange subscription, which both cost $40/month. And while there’s no longer a Sling TV free trial, you can currently get your first month for half price.

You can add MGM+ for free to that first month and get it all for just $20 for the month. It’s not exactly free by any stretch, but not a bad deal if you’re shopping around for a live TV streaming service.

How to pay less for MGM+

Free trials aren’t the only way to save a bit of coin on your monthly streaming bill. In fact, discounts are usually a better overall savings over the long term. Here are some ways you can pay less for MGM+, some with strings and some without.

Get over 3 months free by paying yearly

Like with most (but not all) on-demand streaming services, MGM+ lets you pay for a year up front.

The MGM+ annual subscription costs $58.99/year. Compare that to that $83.88/year you’ll spend by paying monthly, it’s a considerable savings. In fact, it’s the one of the best annual plan savings in the industry (second only to Starz).

While most annual streaming plans roughly equate to getting 2 months free, the MGM+ annual plan is equal to 3½ months free.

Save 10% by paying quarterly

Not many streaming services have a quarterly plan, but MGM+ lets you pay for 3 months at once. It’s not as good of a deal as the annual plan, but still saves you a couple of bucks.

Save almost 30% with Sling

Unless you’re a student with a Prime membership (see below), after the Annual Plan, this is the best way to pay less for MGM+. While MGM+ increased its price to $6.99/month, you can still get it for $5/month through Sling. That’s 28% off the monthly subscriptions price.

And the best thing is that you don’t even need a Sling base plan in order to get it. Just create a free account and add MGM+ as a premium channel in the Services options.

You get 4 channels when signing up through Sling: MGM+, MGM+ Hits, MGM+ Marquee, and MGM+ Drive-In.

Get MGM+ with DirecTV Stream

Pay a buck a month (for 3 months) with DirecTV Stream (April 2024)

This is the most expensive way to pay less for MGM+.

Subscribers to DirecTV Stream can currently get MGM+ for just $0.99/month for 3 months. But seeing as DirecTV Stream is the most expensive streaming service around, this makes the most sense if you already have DirecTV Stream.

You can also get DirecTV Stream’s free trial—which is only 5 days long—and pay a buck to try MGM+ for less than a week.

Bundle MGM+ with Starz on Prime

Amazon Prime members can saving $5/month when they bundle MGM+ with Starz for $11.99/month.

Granted you’ll end up paying more than the $6.99/month that MGM+ costs on its own, but if you’re considering subscribing to Starz—or you already are—it’s worth knowing about.

Sign up as a Prime Student

While there is no official MGM+ student discount, those who are subscribed to Amazon’s Prime Student plan can get MGM+ for 99¢/month for up to a year.

The Prime Student annual plan is currently $69/year, which works out to $5.75/month. Even if you don’t have Prime Student, you’d still save a few cents per month by signing up for a year then getting MGM+ for a buck.

Is there an MGM+ military discount?

No.

Service members looking to save on streaming should check out Disney+ and Hulu for savings.

Is there an MGM+ discount for AARP members?

No.

While MGM Resorts have senior discounts abound, they won’t have such luck with MGM+. AARP members looking for a deal on streaming should check out Paramount+.

Is there an MGM+ teachers discount?

No.

Peacock offers a discount to teachers.

Is there an MGM+ discount for First Responders?

No.

First Responders looking for a streaming service discount should check out Peacock.

Final thoughts on the MGM+ free trial

As one of the remaining free trials in an industry that has in large part been turning away from the try-before-buy ethos, a trial is always appreciated. And not only does MGM+ offer a 7-day free trial, it lets you sign up for it more than once.

One important thing to keep in mind though, is that if you sign up for the MGM+ free trial and choose to keep the service, you need to manually switch to the annual plan (if you want it). It would be nice if you could choose the annual plan when getting your free trial, but the option is not there.
