Just tell the me price! How much does Apple TV+ cost?
$10/month.
That’s the short answer.
More specifically, it’s $9.99/month as of May 2024 when subscribed to as a standalone service. However, there are other Apple TV+ price plans, because it also comes as part of Apple’s digital service bundles known as Apple One.
Keep reading for the long answer.
Did Apple TV+’s price go up?
Apple TV+ price plans are not immune to the streaming industry’s most common malady—price hikes. And we get it, quality shows cost money to make. Besides, nobody’s forcing us to get a subscription and we can always employ a watch-cancel-resubscribe strategy to get the most bang for our buck.
That being said, Apple TV+ was $4.99/month at launch and increased by 40% in October 2022 to $6.99/month. 12 months later it raised the price again by another 42% to $9.99/month in October 2023.
So Apple TV+ basically doubled in price in just over a year.
The annual plan also increased 43%, going from $69.99/year to $99.99/year on December 21, 2023.
Apple TV+ price plans
We like simplicity and we’re not a fan of locking basic features like stream quality behind tier upgrades. Who is? (Excluding the CEOs of Netflix and HBO.) So Apple TV+’s single-tier system is a nice change from most streaming services.
Every Apple TV+ subscriber gets the same content, same video quality, and same features as everyone else.
However, there’s more than one way to pay for Apple TV+. In fact, at last count we found 5 possible Apple TV+ price plans.
If you’re not deeply engulfed in the Apple ecosystem—with an iPad, iPhone, MacBook, Apple Watch, etc.,—then you’ll probably subscribe to Apple TV+ as a standalone service.
But if most of your devices and services have a fruity little logo on them, you might want to consider the Apple One bundle. The various Apple TV+ price plans—or rather the options to pay for the single plan—are as follows:
Apple TV+: $9.99/month
- Complete, ad-free access to the on-demand library
- Option to rent or buy titles not in the library
- Ads: No
- User profiles: 5
- Downloads: Unlimited (but only on iOS devices)
- Simultaneous screens: 6
- Quality: Up to 4K UHD, Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos
- Annual Plan: $99.99/year
Apple One Individual: $19.95/month
- Apple TV+
- 50 GB of iCloud+ online storage
- Apple Music
- Apple Arcade
Apple One Family: $25.95/month

Apple One Premier: $37.95/month

- 2 TB of iCloud+ online storage
- Apple Music
- Apple Arcade

- News+
Apple Music Student: $5.99/month
- The Apple Music Student plan currently includes Apple TV+ for a limited time
- You cannot share it with anyone, including family
- It automatically becomes the Individual plan ($10.99/month and no Apple TV+) when either of the following becomes true:
- You’ve had the plan for 48 months
- You’re no longer a student
Does Apple TV+ have an annual plan?
Yes.
But Apple seems to do their best to hide that fact.
As noted above, Apple TV+ has an annual plan for $69.99/year. Not that you’d know that by reading any of Apple’s promos or even the official Apple TV+ webpage.
While most streamers have monthly/annual toggle button right front and center, there is no mention anywhere of an annual subscription for Apple TV+ price plans. And you don’t even get an annual option when signing up, because after your 7-day free trial is over, it automatically changes to the monthly paid plan.
If you want to save 15% on Apple TV+ by paying for a year up front, go to your settings immediately after signing up for the free trial. Change it to the Annual plan. We even recommend taking a screenshot of your selection in case you end up getting enrolled in the monthly subscription plan. (This can happen and we speak from firsthand experience.)
Is there an Apple TV+ free trial?
Yes.
It’s the question almost everyone asks when looking for a service. And why not? Try before you buy has been a sales tactic for decades. And while some streaming services—such as Netflix, Peacock, and Max—have ditched the free trial experience, Apple basically forces it on you. We tried signing up for Apple TV+ without a free trial and couldn’t do it. (That’s for new accounts only, of course.)
The standard free trial for Apple TV+ is 7 days. However, there are plenty of other ways to get a free trial. Buying an Apple device will nab you 3 months free of Apple TV+ and you can also get a month free by trying out Apple One.
Roku device owners can also get 3 months free by signing up for a new account with their Apple ID on their compatible Roku device.
Is Apple TV+ expensive compared to other streaming services?
Even after doubling its price in about a year, Apple TV+ is still the lowest-priced ad-free on-demand streaming services out there.
Price increases around the industry in 2023—referred to as Streamflation by corporate media addicted to buzzwords—Apple TV+ is still the cheapest ad-free streaming service around. (This was made possible by Prime Video adding commercials in January 2024 and charging 3 bucks a month to remove them.)
Here’s how Apple TV+ stacks up against other streaming services in terms of price and features:
Streamer | With Ads | Ad-free | Premium | Annual Plan | Simultaneous Screens | 4K | Downloads | Free Trial |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
AMC+ | $4.99 | $8.99 | - | $83.88* | 5 | No | Yes | 7 Days |
Apple TV+ | - | $9.99 | - | $99.99 | 6 | Yes | Yes | 7 Days |

Max | $9.99 | $15.99 | $19.99 | $99.99 / $159.99 / $199.99 | 2–4 | Premium Only | Ad-Free+ Only | None |
MGM+ | - | $6.99 | - | $58.99 | 4 | No | Yes | 7 Days |
Netflix | $6.99 | $15.49 | $22.99 | No | 2–4 | Premium Only | Yes | None |
Paramount+ | $5.99 | $11.99 | - | $59.99 / $119.99 | 3 | Ad-free Only | Ad-free Only | 7 Days |
Peacock | $5.99 | $11.99 | - | $59.99 / $119.99 | 3 | Yes | Ad-free Only | None |
Prime Video | $8.99 | $11.98 | - | $139*** | 3 | Yes | Yes | 30 Days |
Starz | - | $9.99 | - | $69.99 | 4 | No | Yes | None |
* Annual plan is only for the Ad-free plan ** Annual plan is only for the With Ads plan *** Annual plan is only for the full Prime membership |
As you can see, it’s still one of the most affordable streaming services on the market, even compared to plans with ads.
Is Apple TV+ worth it?
When Apple TV+ launched in 2019, it was pretty hard up for content. Not that the content was bad—quite the opposite—it’s just that there wasn’t a whole lot of it.
Things have changed since then and there’s a lot more to watch on Apple TV+ in 2024. While the amount of content compared to other paid streamers is still less, that divide is closing. And when you add quality to the equation, the difference is becoming negligible.
Apple TV+ is definitely a quality-over-quantity streamer, so if you’re looking for an all-you-can-eat buffet that could satisfy a family reunion, this still isn’t it. But if you’d like to fill an hour each night with a high-caliber drama, sci-fi, or crime thriller, Apple TV+ should fit the bill.
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
