UPDATE: April 15, 2024

In an exclusive interview with Collider this week, Silo star Rebecca Ferguson revealed some key details about the future of Apple TV+’s hit sci-fi series.

In the video interview she states:

“Season 2 is shot and coming out. And we’re now looking at green-lighting Season 3 and 4, and I think we would maybe film them together.”

That’s all great news for fans of the showโ€”except for those who are hoping that Silo keeps going beyond that. Because in that same breath she continues, “And that would be the end.”

She began the interview stating, “I don’t think it’s a secret. The books are the books. It’s 3 books. And the 3 books are divided onto 4 seasons.”

Whether it remains to be seen whether Silo Season 2 will drop this year or not come out until 2025, Ferguson’s comment makes it sound like it will be here sooner rather than later.

Original post:

Its first season wasn’t even over when Apple TV+ renewed Silo for a second season. That’s not surprising seeing as the underground dystopian sci-fi drama is one of the best Apple TV+ originals to date.

But fans of the show โ€” which is pretty much anyone whoever glanced at it โ€” got some sad news last summer when it was announced that Silo Season 2 had been put on “indefinite hiatus”. (This was due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that paralyzed TV and movie production in the US and abroad, not a cost-cutting measure.)

The most optimistic pundits figured that meant we could hopefully be watching Silo season 2 in 2025. Not exactly what fans wanted to hear, but it was better than the train-crash news about Snowpiercer Season 4 a few months earlier.

However, the new year has brought some hope! Season 2 of Silo might not be that far off after all.

Our Apple TV+ Review can help you decide whether the streamer’s a good fit for you.

When is the Silo Season 2 release date?

Let’s get straight to it.

Nothing yet 100% confirms that Season 2 of Silo is coming out this year. But…

According to Screen Daily, Silo resumed shooting in December. This was further confirmed in an exclusive Collider interview with series lead Rebecca Ferguson, who stars as engineer Juliette Nichols. She stated they were “chockablock, smack back in the beginning of the shoot.”

That means it’s conceivable that Apple TV+ is able to wrap up production and release Silo Season 2 sometime near the end of the year. As most of the confirmed new shows on Apple TV+ are scheduled to premiere in the first half of the year, the streamer will be looking for some heavy hitters to drop during the later months.

And in case you haven’t watch the show yet, read on for a spoiler free synopsis and overview of Silo on Apple TV+. (Then watch the show!)

What is Silo about?

The series was created by Graham Yost and is based on the “Silo” series of books and stories by science fiction author Hugh Howey.

In a nutshell: In a future in which the air outside has become deadly toxic, 10,000 people live in a massive underground silo.

There is a clear hierarchy within the silo and a set of stringent regulations โ€” known as The Pact โ€” exist for the good of the people. However, nobody is forced to stay in the silo. Just say “I want to go outside” and you’re free to go. In fact, you must go. And you’re not allowed back in.

Working and living in the lower levels, skilled engineer Juliette keeps the silo running โ€” and full of breathable air. But when she looks into the mysterious death of a friend, she finds herself tasked with an even greater challenge. One that could change everything. For everyone.

Silo‘s first season ended on one of the best cliffhangers in TV history, so Silo Season 2 had better have some answers.

When was Silo Season 1?

Silo premiered on Apple TV+ on May 5, 2023 to critical acclaim and an immediate fan base. It currently holds an 8.1/10 on IMDb and an 88% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The cliffhanger Silo Season 1 finale that left viewers with jaws hanging open dropped on June 30, 2023. The show was renewed for a second season on June 14, a couple of days before Episode 8 was released.

How deep is the silo in Silo?

Looking down at the doors to Judicial in Silo on Apple TV+

The silo is 144 levels deep into the earth. (So think missile silo rather than grain silo.) And with each level being 40 feet high, the entire silo is around 5,760 feet deep.

That’s over 2 Burj Khalifa’s, 3 CN Towers, or 4 Empire State Buildings deep.

Did we mention there’s no elevator?

The details, history, and purpose of the Silo is revealed slowly over the course of the first season and there are still many mysteries left to uncover. (Like Who built the silo? for starters.) So we’re avoiding any spoilers for those who haven’t seen it.
