If you’re looking for a Hulu free trial in 2024, you’ll be pleased to know that it still exists.
Unlike free-trial-killer Netflix and those that followed in its path—looking at you, Disney+, Peacock, and Max—Hulu still has its standard, official free trial.
No strings attached. No third-party signups. No hoops to jump through whatsoever.
Just a simple, straightforward free trial the way it should be. Not only that, it’s the longest free trial in the industry offered directly (tied with Prime Video).
Read on for all you need to know about the Hulu free trial in 2024, as well as some ways to pay less for the second-oldest streaming service.

Does Hulu offer a free trial in 2024?
Yes.
As noted above, Hulu is one of the remaining streaming services to still offer a free trial directly in 2024. Not only that, it’s tied with Amazon Prime Video as having the longest free trial around.
How long is the Hulu free trial?
30 days.
That’s right, you get a full month of Hulu for free.
As evidenced in the table below, no other streaming service offers a longer free trial directly.
Streaming Service | Free Trial | Repeatable |
AMC+ | 7 Days | No |
Apple TV+ | 7 Days | No |
Disney+ | None | - |
Hulu | 30 Days | Yes |
Max (HBO) | None* | - |
MGM+ | 7 Days | Yes |
Netflix | None* | - |
Paramount+ | 7 Days | No |
Peacock | None* | - |
Prime Video | 30 Days | Every 12 Months |
Starz | None* | - |
* The service does not offer a free trial directly, but there might be promotions and other ways to get a free trial. |
How to get the standard Hulu free trial
To get the standard free trial directly through Hulu, you can either use the Hulu app on your device or sign up on Hulu’s website.
If signing up in a web browser, head to a web page that let’s you choose your Hulu plan. Some links and search results will take you to a “get 1 month” page that requires you to enter a Device Activation Code (see above image). That’s for if you’re signing up on a TV or streaming device.
You can also go to Hulu’s Create Your Account page, then choose your plan after that. All new Hulu accounts start out with a 30-day free trial.
What does the Hulu free trial include?
What you get with your Hulu free trial depends on which plan you sign up for.
You can choose either the Hulu (No Ads) plan or the standard Hulu plan (which has ads). Both give you a 30-day free trial.
There is no free trial for Hulu + Live TV.
It obviously makes sense to sign up for the Hulu (No Ads) plan to start with. You can always downgrade to the ad-supported plan later if you want to pay $10/month less for Hulu—and you don’t mind commercials.

Does the Hulu free trial require a credit card?
No.
But Hulu does require payment information, which is standard protocol for almost every free trial nowadays. While most of Hulu’s payment options are credit cards, there are a couple of other options.
The credit and debit cards Hulu accepts are:
- American Express
- Discover
- MasterCard
- Visa
Other ways to pay for Hulu
Hulu accepts PayPal as another payment option.
You can also use a Hulu gift card to start your subscription, and therefore your free trial. You need to redeem the gift card in order to do so.
Keep in mind that if you don’t add another form of payment, your account gets automatically canceled when the gift card amount runs out.
Hulu can also be subscribed to and paid for though third parties, such as Amazon, Apple, and Roku. For the full and most up-to-date list of Hulu third-party billing partners, check the official Hulu Help page.
Can you get the Hulu free trial more than once?
The Hulu free trial is available to new and eligible returning customers.
The streaming service doesn’t elucidate any further on what constitutes an eligible returning customer. But if it’s anything like the Prime Video free trial, you can take advantage of it every 12 months.
How to cancel your Hulu free trial
Canceling your Hulu subscription is, like the free trial itself, simple and straightforward. Just follow these steps:
- Go to your Account page in a browser
- Under Your Account, select Cancel, then follow the on-screen instructions
- When completed you will receive a confirmation email from Hulu
And that’s all there is to it.
Can you cancel your Hulu free trial before it ends (and keep watching)?
No.
If you’re wondering what happens when you cancel your Hulu free trial, hopefully you checked beforehand. Because “if you cancel during your free trial period, your access to Hulu will end immediately.”
Other ways to get Hulu for free
There are a few more ways to get Hulu for free, either as a free trial or just for free. (If you know any other ways, please drop a comment below.)
Of course, getting something for “free” usually requires spending money on something else. But if you’re already spending the money…
Get Hulu free with T-Mobile
You can get the Hulu (With Ads) plan free for a full year with an active Go5G Next plan with T-Mobile. Just don’t forget that you need to “renew” it on an annual basis or you’ll be charged the $7.99 monthly subscription fee.
There’s no option to upgrade to the Hulu (No Ads) plan.

Get Hulu for free with the Spotify student plan
The Spotify Premium Student plan is hands down one of the best deals in streaming.
Eligible students in the US can get Spotify Premium and Hulu (With Ads) free for a full month. After the free month is up, they pay just $5.99/month for both services.
Obviously, the main catch is that you need to be a student.
While Spotify’s Hulu bundle was previously available to non-students, it isn’t anymore. (Legacy account holders can keep their Hulu access until they change or cancel their Spotify plan.)
How to pay less for Hulu
If you’ve already taken advantage of the Hulu free trial—and have yet to become eligible for a new one—here are some ways you can get a cheaper Hulu subscription.
Get the Hulu student discount
Students get a whopping 75% off the Hulu (with Ads) plan and pay just $1.99/month.
Unfortunately there’s no similar discount for the Hulu (No Ads) plan.
Similar to the Paramount+ student discount, Hulu is partnered with SheerID. Visit the “Hulu U” student page for complete details about the terms and conditions.
Get the Hulu military discount
Eligible US service members, veterans, and their families can get 25% off the Hulu (With Ads) plan. The discount cannot be applied to the Hulu (No Ads) plan or Hulu Premium Add-ons.
Similar to the Disney+ military discount, Hulu’s military discount is handled by The Exchange. Follow the link for more details about the offer and how to sign up.
Is there a Hulu discount for AARP members?
No.
Seniors pay the same as everyone else for Hulu. AARP members looking for a deal on streaming should check out Paramount+.
Is there a Hulu teachers discount?
No.
Peacock offers a discount to teachers.
Is there a Hulu discount for First Responders?
No.
First Responders looking for a streaming service discount should check out Peacock.
Final thoughts on the Hulu free trial
Hulu is tied with Prime Video for the longest free trial in the industry. We’d call it the best free trial in streaming, but Prime Video gets the nod for its clarity on “eligible returning subscribers”. (Plus, you get all of Amazon Prime free for 30 days.)
The only quibble we have with Hulu’s free trial is that canceling it early immediately ends the service. But that’s a very minor grievance considering how good of a deal it is.
In a day when streaming services are killing their free trials left and right, a 30-day free trial is truly exceptional.
