If you’re looking for a Starz free trial in 2024, we’ve got good news and bad news.
Free trials used to be a standard feature of the streaming landscape. Without one, a streaming service was as good as dead. But that changed in the fall of 2020 when the longstanding Netflix free trial was finally laid to rest.
Other streaming services—even new ones like Disney+, Peacock, and Max—were quick to follow suit. And Starz did as well, putting an end to its 7-day free trial in 2023.
But don’t worry, there are still options out there to get a Starz free trial. And Starz also has a great deal that’s almost as good as a free trial—or even better, depending on how you look at it.
Read on for all you need to know about Starz free trials and deals in 2024.

Our Starz Review offers an in-depth look at the content, features, and prices of the service.
Does Starz offer a free trial in 2024?
No.
Not directly.
Starz does not offer a free trial if you sign up through the Starz App or its website in 2024. However, you can still get a 7-day Starz free trial through other streaming services and 3rd-party partners.
While some of them require having another subscription service, that service often has its own free trial you can use at the same time.
Before we get to the best (and easiest) ways to get a free trial for Starz in 2024, here’s how the major streaming services stack up in terms of free trials.
Streaming Service | Free Trial | Repeatable |
AMC+ | 7 Days | No |
Apple TV+ | 7 Days | No |
Disney+ | None | - |
Hulu | 30 Days | Yes |
Max (HBO) | None* | - |
MGM+ | 7 Days | Yes |
Netflix | None* | - |
Paramount+ | 7 Days | No |
Peacock | None* | - |
Prime Video | 30 Days | Every 12 Months |
Starz | None* | - |
* The service does not offer a free trial directly, but there might be promotions and other ways to get a free trial. |
Other ways to get a Starz free trial
Just because you can’t get a free trial directly from Starz, that doesn’t mean you can’t get one at all. Starz still offers a free trial through a number of third parties.
Get a Starz free trial with Amazon Prime Video
The easiest way to get a Starz free trial is through Amazon Prime Video. It’s free for 7 days and comes as a Prime Video Channel, which means it comes with a few caveats.
First, you need to be an Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscriber. (Read more about Prime Video price plans to see the different options.) The good news is that the Prime Video free trial is 30 days long and you’re allowed to try it once every 12 months, so it shouldn’t be a major obstacle for most people.
The second caveat is that as a Prime Video Channel, you don’t have access to the official Starz App. You need to watch Starz in the Prime Video app. This has pros (like Prime Video’s X-ray feature) and cons (no Starz-only navigation) that will mostly come down to personal preference.
Obviously, if you find that you like Starz but don’t want an Amazon Prime membership—or Starz as a Prime Video Channel—you can always cancel it and sign up directly through Starz.
Get a Starz free trial on Hulu
The second-best way to get a Starz free trial is with Hulu.
While this also requires getting another subscription, Hulu also offers an industry-best 30-day free trial. You can try Starz free for 7 days as an add-on in Hulu. After the week is up, it’ll cost you the same as signing up for Starz directly.
One of the benefits of getting Starz as a Hulu add-on—besides having both services on a single bill—is it expands your viewing device options.
Hulu has a wider range of compatible devices than Starz. For example, you can watch Hulu on a Nintendo Switch or an Amazon Echo Show, neither of which are devices supported by Starz.
Get a Starz free trial on Fubo
The third way to get a Starz free trial is with Fubo.
If you’re already a Fubo subscriber, you can just find it under add-ons and get a 7-day free trial for Starz.
But if you’re not currently subscribed to Fubo—and don’t want to pay $80/month for it—you can get a Fubo free trial. The trial period is 7 days and you can add a Starz free trial to it when you sign up. That means you’ll only have a week to try out both services at the same time, but free is free.
One of the benefits of signing up to Starz through Fubo—as opposed to Prime Video and Hulu—is that you can use your Fubo account credentials to log in to the official Starz App.
Get a Starz free trial on DirecTV Stream
Whether DirecTV Stream has the best Starz free trial is difficult to answer. Because even though it offers the longest Starz free trial, it’s also the most expensive.
Confused? Don’t be.
When you sign up for DirecTV Stream and choose the Entertainment or the Choice plan—the 2 least expensive of DirecTV Stream’s 4 expensive plans—you also get 3 months of Starz for free. (The 2 other plans, Ultimate and Premier, include Starz as part of their channel lineup.)
This sounds great until you consider DirecTV Stream is the most expensive streaming service available. There is a 5-day DirecTV Stream free trial, but that barely puts a dent in the 3 free months of Starz.
Also, after the Starz free trial ends, DirecTV Stream charges $10.99/month for Starz. That’s a buck more than what Starz (and everyone else) charges.
One (small) bright spot is that you can use your DirecTV Stream credentials to log in to the Starz App, just like Fubo, as noted above.
Get a Starz free trial on Roku
The second-longest Starz free trial will also cost you, but not as much as DirecTV Stream.
Roku offers a 30-day free trial of Starz when you buy a new Roku streaming device. (You also get AMC+ free for 30 days when you buy a new device.)
Considering you can get a Roku Express for $25, it’s a pretty good deal and you get a streaming device out of it. Or looking at it the other way, you get a Roku Express for $6 as a month of Starz ($9.99) and AMC+ ($8.99) together will cost you $19.*
The offer is time sensitive and only available from February 24 to April 28, 2024.
* NOTE: Amazon Prime members can get Starz and AMC+ bundled together for just $13.99/month.

How to pay less for Starz
The best way to pay less for Starz is to sign up directly with Starz.
The promo that Starz introduced to replace its free trial is actually better than a free trial—if you like what’s on Starz. And there are actually 2 Starz deals available to new subscribers.
First, you can sign up for a monthly subscription for just $3/month for up to 3 months.
But an even better deal is getting the Semi-Annual Plan for just $20. That’s 20 bucks for 6 months. While the $3.33/month you’ll pay is slightly higher than the 3-month deal, it’s cheaper in the long run if you stick with Starz for the full year.
The 3-month deal plus 9 more months at the regular price of $9.99/month will set you back $98.91, while the discounted Semi-Annual Plan plus an additional 6 months will only cost $79.94. That’s almost a $20 difference!
Bundle Starz with MGM+ on Prime
Amazon Prime members can saving $5/month when they bundle MGM+ with Starz for $11.99/month.
You’ll obviously end up paying more than the $9.99/month that Starz costs on its own, but if you plan to subscribe to MGM+—or you already are—this deal is a must-have.
Is there a Starz student discount?
Unfortunately there is no student discount for Starz like you’ll find with the 3 Ps, Paramount+, Peacock, and Prime Video.
Is there a Starz discount for AARP members?
AARP members are in the same boat as students (and everyone else) when it comes to discounts. There is no AARP discount for Starz. Only Paramount+ offers an AARP discount, while Peacock offers a discount to teachers and first responders.
Final thoughts
Starz is already one of the cheapest ad-free on-demand streaming services on the market, and the 2 new subscriber deals make it an even better deal.
However, its library is not as robust and diverse as the big-name streaming services. But with a library full of hidden gems and high-caliber original series, it’s definitely worth a look. Read more about whether Starz is right for you in our in-depth Starz Review.
