The new Apple TV+ crime thriller Presumed Innocent premiered on June 12.

The miniseries is based on Scott Turow’s first novel, the best-selling 1987 legal thriller Presumed Innocent, which has already been adapted for the screen once before. The 1990 movie of the same name starring Harrison Ford was a smash hit, making 10x its $20 million budget at the box office.

Adding to its legal thriller cred, the Apple TV+ miniseries is created by network TV legal drama hotshot David E. Kelley. His credits include The Practice, Boston Legal, Ally McBeal for network television, as well as Goliath for Prime Video and Big Little Lies for HBO.

The show stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a Chicago prosecutor charged with murdering his colleague. Whom he was having an affair with. (Don’t worry, that’s not really a spoiler. It’s revealed early on—and is obvious even before that.)

The main cast also includes Ruth Negga from AMC’s Preacher and HBO-favorite Bill Camp, whose credits include The Night Of, The Outsider, and The Leftovers.

Rounding out the top 4 cast is Peter Sarsgaard, whose streaming credits include The Looming Tower and Dopesick on Hulu and The Killing on AMC/Netflix. (He also happens to be married to Gyllenhaal’s real-life sister Maggie.)

Only the first 2 episodes are available at the time of writing, but the show is off to a great start. Very compelling and bingeable. Early reviews and audience scores are positive, with an 88% on TMDB, 7.4 on IMDb, and 81% and 89% critic and audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively.
