Mayor of Kingstown is another bingeable drama from the stable of Taylor Sheridan crime shows. However it might be a little too dark and gloomy for some people, as it doesn’t offer sunny moments of relief like other Sheridan shows, such as Yellowstone and Tulsa King.
It’s vibe is closer to Mare of Easttown.
Critics and audiences didn’t much care for its first season—and only liked Season 2 a little bit more—but that didn’t stop Season 3 of Mayor Kingstown from happening. It premiered on June 2, 2024 and has been better received than the first 2 seasons.
What’s Mayor of Kingstown about?
The fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan has one major industry industry—prison. This means that 4 main groups coexist within the town’s ecosystem. On the outside, there are the cops and criminals, while on the inside, there are the guards and inmates.
And for decades, acting as mediators between them all, is the McLusky family. And at the head of the family (due to events in the first episode) sits a reluctant Jeremy Renner, who wants nothing more than to leave the town behind.
Replete with the standard themes of systemic racism and corruption, Mayor of Kingstown is bleak and tiring, but definitely worth a shot.
