Reina Roja
Based on the best-selling “Reina Roja Trilogy” by Spanish journalist and author Juan Gómez-Jurado, Reina Roja is a Spanish-language mystery thriller. And anyone who’s watched Money Heist knows that Spanish filmmakers are no slouches when it comes to delivering thrills. Fans of Money Heist will also be pleased to learn that Hovik Keuchkerian, who played Bogotá, co-stars alongside Vicky Luengo in this new thriller.
Antonia Scott has an IQ of 242, officially making her the smartest person on Earth. Her brains make her the Red Queen — the star of a top-secret law enforcement project — and she’s put to work after someone kidnaps the daughter of the richest man in Spain.
Luengo stars as the Red Queen, while Keuchkerian portrays her partner, a rogue Basque cop on the verge of losing his badge.
Fallout
Now, movies and TV shows based on video games don’t have the greatest track record. They’re responsible for some of the worst shows and movies in the history of entertainment. Some, like The Witcher, have audiences and critics divided, while others — like Resident Evil from Netflix — did no fare so well. Films in particular — Far Cry, Tekken, Doom, etc., etc., etc. ad infinitum — have been, for the most part, atrocious.
But in the right hands, we get something wonderful like HBO’s The Last of Us. Like HBO, Prime Video has a proven track record of putting out high-quality original content. Let’s hope that record continues with its Fallout TV series. Because right now, it’s definitely one of the most highly anticipated new series on Prime.
