The Last of Us Season 2 is underway!
One of the most anticipated shows of the (hopefully) near future is HBO’s hit show The Last of Us. And there’s finally been an official update on where things stand.
Less than half an hour ago, the official Max Instagram account (and other official socials) just posted that The Last of Us Season 2 is in production.
It was actually a collaborative post by the official accounts for Max, HBO, The Last of Us, PlayStation, and Naughty Dog. And they also announced when TLOU Season 2 is going to land on HBO and Max.
And based on the fact that this is all about the show being in production, you can probably guess that we won’t be watching it this year. However, it was revealed that the second season has been in production since February 2024, so at least it didn’t just get udnerway yesterday.

When is The Last of Us Season 2 coming out?
The brief post doesn’t give any other details about when The Last of Season 2 will premiere other than the year. The second season of the hit show will be on HBO and Max in 2025.

The first season of The Last of Us premiered on January 15, 2023. So we’re hoping that HBO wants to keep a similar release window for its most anticipated new season. It’s unlikely to be in January, but a release sometime before the snow melts is definitely with the realm of production possibilities.

Is there a trailer for The Last of Us Season 2?
No.
Of course not. It’s likely a ways off, but we’ll be watching for it. Until then, expect the usual clickbait fan trailers on YouTube cluttering your search results.
Who is in The Last of Us Season 2?
The 2 stars from TLOU Season 1, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, are both returning. Although that shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone. (Although anyone who’s played the game—oh, never mind.
Kaitlyn Dever—who starred in Hulu’s Dopesick (2021) and 2019’s already-a-classic Booksmart—was already cast as Abby Anderson, one of the most controversial protagonists in video game history.
It’ll be interesting to see how the physically and mentally tough character is adapted for the screen.
Catherine O’Hara has also been attached to join the TLOU cast for the second season, but there are not details about who she’ll be portraying.

We’ll be adding to this post as updates come in. Until then, if you haven’t already watch Prime Video’s Fallout, what are you waiting for? Go read 6 (Spoiler-free) Reasons Fallout is the Best Video Game Adaptation Ever Made then go watch it!
